Year 9 Students Mark Out A Path To The Final!

It is with great pride that we can report on the continued sporting successes of our students. In February, the Year 9 Boys have successfully navigated their way to the final of the South Yorkshire Schools Cup Final. Below marks the journey they have been on in the tournament so far:

Last 16
After been handed a bye through to the last 16 of the South Yorkshire Cup, the boys certainly made it count in an entertaining encounter against Westfield School from Sheffield. An end to end game with a lot of quality goals from our team saw us progress to the Quarter-Finals with a 7-5 victory. A special mention must go to our step in Goalkeeper, LB who produced three outstanding one-on-one saves to keep us in the tie. Man of the match went to JH.

Quarter Finals
The Quarter- Final Tie then saw us host Aston Academy from Rotherham. Another impressive performance saw our team run out 5-0 victors on home soil. Some excellent play in the attacking third helped JT claim a hat trick, whilst centre half ET popped up with a bullet header from a corner. Also a rare occurrence saw Goalkeeper RR score from his own penalty area with a clearance that dipped over the opposition goalkeeper. Man of the Match went to AF for displaying a solid performance at the back.

Semi Final
Another home tie for the Semi-Final saw us host McAuley Academy from Doncaster. Once again the boys displayed some excellent stuff, racing into a 4-0 lead at half-time. A cagey 10 minutes after the break saw our opponents snatch an early goal back, but found the deficit too much in the end as the lads ran out 7-2 winners. Some deadly finishing from the lads sealed the ticket into the final. Goalscorers JH with a bullet header from a corner opened the scoring followed by goals from JTx2, BHx2, FP & HC. Man of the Match went to JT who controlled the game throughout.

Keep following our website and Twitter feed to stay up to date with news from the final. Whatever the result may be, we are extremely proud of the work our students have put in and what they have achieved so far.
