Kirk Balk celebrate European Day of Languages

On Thursday 26th September, Kirk Balk Academy celebrated European Day of Languages through a variety of fun activities that took place all week in both VMG and MFL lessons. The aim was to allow students to see the importance of learning a language and how this would then aid them in later life.

All students were involved in a House assembly which demonstrated the advantages of learning a language.  It was interesting to hear students talking afterwards about their dream job and how having fluency and comprehension of Spanish or German would make them stand out from the crowd.

The annual European Day of Languages VMG quiz fostered a lot of competition, especially amongst form tutors! The VMG with the most correct answers on the quiz was F8 – congratulations to all who took part!  Another exciting competition was the Inter-Academy Poster competition.  All students were given the opportunity to create a poster on why it is important to learn another language.  We received a staggering 109 entries to the competition so as you can imagine, it was very difficult to pick just one winner.  The winner for our Academy will now be entered into the Trust wide competition for the chance to win cinema tickets. Congratulations to Holly who will represent our Academy with her outstanding poster!
