Prom

Due to the current government restrictions around social gatherings, you will know that we recently took the very difficult decision to cancel the Year 11 prom.  Given the uncertainty around how or when these restrictions will change, and the fact that venues are currently prohibited from hosting large gatherings, this decision was made because the health and well-being of our students is our prime consideration. We are fully aware of the disappointment that some students and parents/carers are feeling about this situation, and we are saddened that we have had to make this decision.

Although the prom has been cancelled, we already have other ideas and plans to support our Year 11 students and celebrate their work. If the government guidance changes about social gatherings, we would like to hold a red-carpet evening in the academy later in the autumn term, to celebrate and recognise our students’ achievements. Details of this will be published at a later date, subject to any changes to government guidance.

GCSE Results Day

We are delighted to announce that it is our intention to invite students into the academy to receive their GCSE results on the 20th of August. Our students’ wellbeing remains our top priority and we strongly believe that the students would benefit from our support and guidance as they receive their results. We also intend to make the event as memorable and as special as possible for all our wonderful Year 11 students.

Please be reassured all government social distancing guidance will be considered when planning this event. We may have to do this in a different way, perhaps by smaller, friendship-based group appointments, but further details will be provided nearer the time to reflect the latest guidance.

Leavers’ Hoodies

As part of the Results Day celebrations, we would like to purchase, for every student, a commemorative Leavers’ Hoodie to mark their time at Kirk Balk Academy. The hoodie will be free of charge and will feature all the names of the students in Y11 and can be ordered in a variety of sizes and colors. Please use the link below to order your hoodie by Friday 17th of July. Alternatively, please call the academy and let us know your preferences.

Hoodie orders

The hoodies will be given to the students alongside their results on the 20th of August. We’ll also have arrangements in place to distribute these to you should your child not be able to attend in person on GCSE Results Day.

Yearbook

In addition, we would like to create a permanent keepsake for our wonderful Year 11 students.  To enable this, we have created an online yearbook, for students to add messages, which can be accessed here Online Yearbook

In the autumn term, we will use all the messages to create a printed book, which we will gift to students at the planned red-carpet event, if this is able to go ahead.  We would love to include your photographs too, so please send them to [email protected] making sure they have your name in the filename.

Yearbooks can capture what made our years in school special, enabling memories to flood back when revisited in years to come.  We hope to produce a really high quality publication that students will be able to cherish forever.

GCSE RESITS

We recognise and support the fact that a number of Year 11 students may wish to take the opportunity to re-sit certain GCSE examinations, in order that they receive grades which reflect the exceptional and consistent hard work they have engaged in during their time at secondary school.  We will work in partnership with students and parents/carers to ensure that students are well supported in preparation for any re-sits that they wish to take, and will accommodate these resit examinations at Kirk Balk Academy.  We are already planning numerous ways in which we can assist in this preparation, as well as working closely with post-16 providers to ensure students are able to advance to the next stage of their educational journey.

Message from Mr Buckley

I would like you all to know that we do understand that these unprecedented times have not been easy for our Y11 students. We have not forgotten them and have very much missed interacting with them all daily. We remain incredibly proud of all our Y11 leavers and the resilience they have shown. We hope they have enjoyed their time with us as much as we have enjoyed having them as part of the Kirk Balk family and hope that we get to see each other again soon on GCSE Results Day.
