In October, Greg Davies, star of both TV and film, visited Kirk Balk as part of an upcoming BBC series that celebrates classic British literature. As a former teacher himself, Greg wanted to step into the shoes of Barry Hines (a former teacher at Kirk Balk) in order to delve into the inspiration between Hine’s classic novel: A Kestrel for a Knave.
Whilst learning about the inspiration behind the novel, Greg also experienced an English lesson where he spoke to a number of students about the classic text and why he believed it should still serve as a major part of the school curriculum.
All of the students involved were extremely enthusiastic and keen to work with Greg, who commented about how impressed he was with the maturity of our students and on how good the school was as a whole.
With the documentary set to air later this year, we are all now eagerly awaiting the release. For everyone at Kirk Balk Academy, hosting a celebrity like Greg was a momentous occasion, and as always, all of our students involved represented the academy extremely well.
