Year 8 students become engineers

Over 60 Year 8 students became engineers during a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) workshop funded by Shell and facilitated by Learn by Design.

The Tomorrows Engineers Energy Quest session aimed to broaden students’ understanding of engineering careers and discovered that engineers are needed in all sectors, even in food and beauty!

Students learnt there will be a world-wide shortage of energy in the future and that their generation will be the engineers solving this problem. To help them explore the concepts of energy generation, sustainability and technology, students had fun building and racing mini electric cars.

The facilitator said, “I’m impressed by the level of interest and engagement of your students. They had so many questions and some great ideas”. Well done to all Year 8s who took part.
