Kirk Balk Academy is proud to read!

Northern Education Trust Kirk Balk Academy is introducing its Reading Routes programme for all Year 7 and 8 students to encourage a love of reading, develop independent reading opportunities whilst allowing students to read and engage with texts across a number of different genres and authors.

All students in Year 7 have chosen their favourite Comedy Central book from a choice of the following five options: Witch Watch, The Falcon’s Malteser, The Boy at the Back of the Class, Dog Zombies Rule and The Ice Monster and Year 8 have students have chosen their favourite Adventure book from a choice of: The House with the Chicken Legs, Around the World in 80 Days, The Colour of the Sun, Where the World Ends and Boy 87.

In support of our students, all staff at Kirk Balk Academy will also select a book from one of the Reading Routes, so that we can engage fully with students with their reading and immerse ourselves in their favourite books.

Our student books will soon be arriving at the Academy for our students to collect and begin their exciting journey to ‘read a full route’ of books.

We can’t wait to talk to our students about all the exciting things our characters get up to!
